Workforce Participation Workshop (2006)
Tasmania is experiencing its best economic conditions in decades, which has led to the recent growth of over 10% in the number of Tasmanians in employment, taking the number employed to over 225,000.
At the same time, almost 40% of Tasmanians over 17 are not working and are not registered to find work through the Job Network – that is around 150,000 people. Many of these people are either unable to work, or do not wish to work, however, 30,000 of them want to work and 10,000 of these Potential Workplace Participants are actively looking for work.
There may also be an additional 10-20,000 Tasmanians who could also be Potential Workplace Participants. That means that there are 30-50,000 Potential Workplace Participants in Tasmania who are not working because their needs and aspirations for workforce participation are not being met or are not understood.
Three regional workshops will be conducted in Launceston, Ulverstone and Hobart with representatives from organisations that provide services, or who are able to provide services to this group of Potential Workplace Participants.
The purpose of these workshops will be twofold:
- Firstly, the consultants are seeking to understand the perspectives of Service Providers on the needs, work aspirations and potential opportunities available to Potential Workplace Participants.
- Secondly, the consultants will need to use the networks and relationships of Service Providers to enable them to contact and attract Potential Workplace Participants to a wider series of local workshop consultations following the Service Provider workshops. These latter workshops will enable the consultants to better understand the needs, aspirations and opportunities for Potential Workplace Participants.
The workshops will run from 10.00am to 3.00pm and will include Morning Tea and Lunch.
Workshop dates and locations are:
- Hobart Function Centre, Elizabeth St. Pier – Monday October 2nd
- Launceston Tram Shed Function Centre, Mowbray – Wednesday October 4th
- Ulverstone Civic Centre, Patrick St. – Thursday October 5th
